The prophetic words we speak should be seasoned with salt, and flavoured with grace. Love covers a multitude of sin and we are not to call out people’s sin or struggles to humiliate them or bring shame. The Words of Knowledge or Words of Wisdom that we receive by the prompting of the Holy Spirit is filtered through our hearts and manifest in encouragement through words that speak hope and bring transformation. We are not all prophets but we can prophecy when we receive the gifts of knowledge, wisdom or prophecy. These are part of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit that are governed by the Holy Spirit living in us.
Matthew 5:13-16 (CEV) “You are like salt for everyone on earth. But if salt no longer tastes like salt, how can it make food salty? All it is good for is to be thrown out and walked on. You are like light for the whole world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden, and no one would light a lamp and put it under a clay pot. A lamp is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven.”
If I had a word of knowledge that someone was struggling with depression. Would it bring hope if I said to the person I know you are depressed? Or would it bring hope if I took hold of that depression and spoke life into it by prophesying seasons of joy. What the Lord reveals He heals. Would God want that person to stay depressed? Or is God our healer and does He bring a transformation by a renewing of our minds. Words of knowledge are powerful but by highlighting the struggle or depression only shines the spotlight on the speaker. It does not bring a change in the spiritual atmosphere or a transformation of the heart.
Col 4:6 “Let your speech be always with grace, having been seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. “
For the activation today take not on the delivery of your encouragement or prophetic words. Ask the Lord who needs encouragement today. Sit in the presence of the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to minister in and through you. He might show you a picture of a friend or colleague or a name of a family member might come to mind.
Ask the Lord what you should say to them. You might have a scripture come to mind or the lyrics of a song or a poem or a dance, picture you want to paint or draw. Remember the Lord speaks in a still small voice so the voice or impression could sound like your own voice. Now we filter the spiritual information through the Word of God. Does the impression portray God’s character? Is it encouraging, uplifting or bring comfort?
If all the answers are yes, then send the message to your friend with the soul purpose of encouraging them. We encourage others not to put a spotlight on our gifts but to bring glory to the Lord. It is not about us but about furthering the Kingdom of God and His incredible love for us.
Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven. May your prophetic words be seasoned with salt, and flavoured with grace so it is a pleasing sacrifice for the Lord.
Until next time, keep prophesying!
Be blessed!
